چکیده

The dependency of surfaceor groundwater flows and aquifer hydraulic properties on dewateringinduced layer deformation is not available in the USGS's groundwater model MODFLOW. A new integrated hydrologic model, MODFLOW-OWHM, formulates this dependency by coupling mesh deformation with aquifer transmissivity and storage and by linking land subsidence/uplift with deformationdependent flows that also depend on aquifer head and other flow terms. In a test example, flows most affected were stream seepage and evapotranspiration from groundwater (ETgw). Deformation feedback also had an indirect effect on conjunctive surfaceand groundwater use components: Changed stream seepage and streamflows influenced surface-water deliveries and returnflows. Changed ETgw affected irrigation demand, which jointly with altered surface-water supplies resulted in changed supplemental groundwater requirements and pumping and changed return runoff. This modeling feature will improve the impact assessment of dewatering-induced land subsidence/uplift (following irrigation pumping or coal-seam gas extraction) on surface receptors, inter-basin transfers, and surfaceinfrastructure integrity. © 2014 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Simulating and Optimizing the Conjunctive Use of Surface and Groundwater Resources Using the System Dynamics Approach (A Case Study: Dashte-Abbas Irrigation Network)

The construction of irrigation network and the water transfer from Karkheh Dam to Dashte-Abbas, due to neglecting the groundwater resources has increased groundwater level and waterlogging of the agricultural land in the recent years. The aim of this study was, therefore, to optimize the conjunctive use of surface and groundwater resources in Dashte-Abbas to minimize waterlogging problems and a...

Modeling and zoning of land subsidence in the southwest of Tehran using artificial neural networks

The earth's surface, due to its natural conditions and its structure is always changing and reshaping. One of the created deformations is the land subsidence. This is the most dangerous events which can be seen in most urban areas especially in the agricultural plains today. This study aims at zoning land subsidence and recognition of geometrical factors in southwest of Tehran. To estimate and ...

Accuracy Assessment of GLM and FDA Models for Land Subsidence Susceptibility Mapping in Semnan Plain

The mechanism of land subsidence and soil deformation is the dissipation of the excess pore water pressure and the compaction of the soil skeleton under the effect of natural or man-made factors. Land subsidence has occurred in more of 300 plains of Iran, and Semnan Plain is one of the most important areas that face to this phenomenon. The aim of current research was land subsidence susceptibil...

Evaluation of land subsidence in Kashmar-Bardaskan plain, NE Iran

The development of agriculture and industry and the increase of population in countries with arid to semi-arid climates have led to more harvesting of groundwater resources and as a result land subsidence in different parts of the worlds. Decades of groundwater overexploitation in the Kashmar-Bardaskan plain in the north-east of Iran has resulted substantial land subsidence in this plain. The p...
